Content
The lecture will focus on two reports that provided an
important basis of the UK National Annex to Eurocode
EN1998.  In his presentation, Edmund Booth will
describe these two studies: one being the first seismic
hazard contour maps of the UK mainland prepared for
use with a seismic code; the other considering when
seismic design might be needed for structures within
the UK.  As well as examining these studies, Edmund
will make some more general observations about the
role of research in the fast developing discipline of
earthquake engineering.
